Coming This Month: Wangan Midnight Live Action DVD Box Set

Last year, the Wangan Midnight anime series debuted in Japan, and caused a resurgence in the popularity of the old series around the world. A lesser known fact is that besides the comics, video games and the anime, there were also several live action Wangan Midnight films produced over the years.

On March 28th, the "Wangan Midnight 910" DVD box set will be released in Japan, complete with 10 volumes of the original live action series. The first film was made in 1991 and the final, "Wangan Midnight Return" was made in 2001, thus the "9101" title. In addition to the 10 volumes included the set, a special booklet will also be part of the package.

As with most legit Japanese DVD releases, the box set will not be cheap. Amazon Japan is selling it for about $300 USD. Nevertheless, it is nice to see these old movies being brought back from obscurity. I don't know if it will become part of my DVD collection, but I will be one of the first in line at my neighborhood movie rental joint.
