The S15 Silvia has proven to be one of the most versatile and popular cars in Japan's tuning scene. Even now, more than 5 years after the last Silvia rolled off the production line, the S15 continues to be one of the most popular platforms for modification in Japan and elsewhere. The factory styling, which is in my opinion one of the best designs to ever come out of Japan, still looks fresh to this day.
There have been S15's built for every type of motorsport from drifting to drag racing to time attack and everything else. So how do you do make one of the most popular tuning cars stand out from the crowd? Set Up Garage Realize, located in frigid Sapporo on Japan's northern-most island, has put together an S15 that manages to stand out without standing out. This car was in Option 2's booth at Tokyo Auto Salon but a lot of people were passing this car by to look at the more extravagant machines. So I thought this car is worthy of a closer look.
The first thing you notice on the car is the M-Sports aero and fender combination. While there is nothing mind-blowing about it, it works well on this car and the subtle trim on an otherwise normal paint job adds a classy touch. Speaking of class, the wheels are Weds Bvillens T8S in an 18" front and 19" rear set up.
What stands out most about this car is not what is on the outside but what is under the hood. When you look under the bonnet you won't a 500hp turbo SR or an RB26 swap. Actually the engine is a non-turbo SR20DE. Of course it is not your average Silvia Spec S powerplant. The naturally aspirated SR has been worked over with a 2.2l stroker kit , upgraded cams and valvetrain and is fed by an individual throttle body set up from a Nissan Pulsar GTI-R.
With all the engine work, the car puts down about 280 naturally aspirated horespower. In addition the car is running a 6 speed transmission from a Slivia Spec R, ZEAL Function X suspension and an Ikeya Formula full arm kit. As expected from a street car, the car still has its full interior intact with the addition of leather-wrapped bucket seats and some VIP-like wood accents.
Everything comes together to give this Silvia a more mature feel , and with 280 NA horsepower on tap it has more than enough under the hood for some fun on the street, in the mountains, or at the track. Thumbs up to SUG Realize for bringing some freshness to the Silvia tuning game. Check out their website for more on this car and to see some of their other work.
